My Beautiful Pups - Robin

My sweet pups love to be together. On the couch is no exception. Luna is the black one and Abby the spotty.
I can't imagine a world without dogs. Thank goodness I don't have to!

Coffee @ SFMOMA - Rachel

Yesterday I visited SFMOMA with my kids and a dear friend, I had every intention of taking a camera, and somehow managed to arrive with only my poor little Blackberry. The images I caught were not what I wanted, I was soo sad not to have my Nikon (or even my point n shoot), but I've made the best of what I did. These pics have had their lighting and contrast adjusted extensively, and I have applied a dry brush filter, as well. I like the results I got with the empty cups better than the full ones. Maybe I'll keep playing and adjusting, or maybe I'll pour myself another cup of coffee and move on.

Mother Hummingbird - Robin

I've missed you all! I am really struggling with my photography project. I wish you all could brainstorm with me. I'm running out of time!

We are a hummer friendly yard. We have many, many hummers and many nests. One that is active this year is situated between the garage and house. There are about 3.5 feet between the nest and the wall which makes photography of the babies difficult. It's pretty dark as well. I have seen them briefly and they are so very small. They are about .5" long and .2" wide.
I'd have to get above the nest with my camera on my tripod to get the babies in focus. It's been so cold that I don't want to cause any more stress to this new little family. So, I'm making due with my zoom and a respectful distance. I hope you like it!

Blossoms - Rachel

I was struck by these abundant and delicate blossoms, lit by the afternoon sun. With only my little point and shoot I knew I would have to "do" something with the photo to get what I wanted; this came pretty close. Crosshatch filter added and saturation increased in PS.

Another Drawbridge shot - Robin

This latest school project was about converting digital to black and white and also sharpening.
That explains this sharp, black and white photo of another abandoned house in Drawbridge. :-)

Drawbridge - Our Friendly Neighborhood Ghost Town - Robin

Rach and I went on a little illegal adventure to our own local ghost town, Drawbridge. It was such a successful trip that I went again. I had to turn in 3 photos tonight, along with the rest of my class, and I am thrilled to say that this was one of the most admired. I am so proud!

What did I tell ya? More food!
Food styling when you have no real lighting and props is a very McGyver-y proposition.
I took this photo and the radish from yesterday, outside at about 10am in the shade. All of the lighting affects beyond that are done in Photoshop. It is amazing how you can manipulate light!
I love the gold plate upon which this beautiful pepper is perched. It is always fun coming up with a way, using my very limited prop selection, to let my veggies show their best side. :-)

It's good to be back. Thanks for the invite girls.

It figures that my first post is a picture of food - Spanish Black Radish to be exact - as I am immersed in food these days. I am taking fruit / veggie pix for a CSA working on building a complete index of their foods. I am in an amazing photography class this quarter with an inspiring instructor, Lesley Louden. I am working on a food series although it will NOT look at all like this picture. My project is about what we feed those we love. Expect a lot of food this month.

P.S. Black Spanish Radish is just like the radish we know and love except bigger. The inside is bright white and zesty!
